Become a Member

We love to have new members join us!

Any resident of the 33rd Legislative District age 18 or above and able to independently declare partisan affiliation is eligible to become a Voting Member by (1) emailing info@33rddems.org declaring their intent to become a member, and (2) paying annual membership dues on our Contribute page. (Please note: nobody is turned away from the 33rd for inability to pay. Simply explain so in your email to us.)

New members are eligible to vote and run for a position on our board pursuant to our bylaws twenty‐five (25) days after payment or waiver of dues. If you are an inactive or former member and wish to renew your membership, you will have your full membership rights restored immediately upon payment of dues.

Youth Members are also welcome! Any person between the age of thirteen and seventeen years old residing within the 33rd Legislative District may hold a youth membership with the 33rd by supporting the principles of the Democratic Party, and may become a voting member upon turning 18 and payment (or waiver) of annual dues.

Become a PCO!

What is a PCO?

The most fundamental geographic unit of organization for the Democratic Party is the precinct, which is a small portion of the legislative district. Its size depends on the density and quantity of the population, but often is roughly a small neighborhood or number of city blocks. The responsible party at the precinct level is the Precinct Committee Officer (PCO). PCOs are enshrined in state law (see RCW 29A.80) Elected PCOs are voted into office during the primary election in even-numbered election years to serve a two-year term.

If no PCO is elected in a particular precinct, then a Democrat who lives in that precinct can be appointed as the PCO. If you live in a precinct that already has an elected or appointed PCO, then you can be appointed to serve as an “Acting PCO” in a neighboring vacant precinct.

PCO are responsible for electing the party officers, as well as the adoption or amendment of bylaws. Elected PCOs are also the party officials who vote to fill a vacancy if an elected official within their jurisdiction vacates a currently held position.

PCOs are also expected to canvas or telephone their precinct in coordination with the election (walking lists with phone numbers will be provided by the district organization). It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors.
